The Public Safety Communications (PSC), Radio Communications Services, Client Engineering Units are responsible for a wide array of engineering activities and services related to the public safety communications systems engineering and design for public safety agencies of the State of California. Under direction of a Senior Telecommunications Engineer, the position ensures engineering services for public safety communications meet the critical operational requirements of the state.

Working Conditions

Hybrid Telework - This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which includes up to two days of remote work per week. Additional in office days may be required based on the business needs. Main Office located in Sacramento, CA.

DMV Pull Program - Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid California Driver’s License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Conflict of Interest - This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience (3 year minimum) designing and developing a two-way Land Mobile Radio (LMR) or similar system and associated external components (antennas, filters, combining systems).
  • Experience (3 year minimum) in the design, propagation tools, FCC licensing, survey report and testing of two-way communications system.
  • Experience (1 year minimum) with the operation of test equipment for two-way communications system: Communications Service Monitor, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Digital Storage Oscilloscope, In-line Watt Meter.
  • Experience (1 year minimum) in IP networking and architecture.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills to create and present MS PowerPoint presentations, design plans, test reports, technical training, and project logistics coordination.
  • Ability to function effectively on independent assignments and also be an effective contributor on project teams.
