CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. New employees of the Florida State Guard will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
2. New employees of the Florida State Guard are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program. 
3. The Florida State Guard is paid on a monthly basis.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools:
  • Commercial Pilot
  • *Multi-Engine Airplane
  • *Multi-Engine Helicopter

*Notes military equivalent for a specific airframe may be substituted.

• Ability to obtain an FAA ATP in category(ies) of aircraft to be flown within one year of employment Current or ability to maintain a FAA Class II medical certificate.
• Must have at least two years of experience in instructing others in a specific airframe/military aircraft.
• In excess of 2500 hours of total flight time:
  • At least 1500 hours of multi-engine rotary-winged or 1500 hours of multi-engine fixed-winged required
• In excess of 250 hours NVG any airframe

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the overall flight schedule, mission coordination, and management of flight records and other documentation as required.
• Plan and assist the Operations Officer to director department in the use of aircraft.
• Provide advice and counsel to the Operations Officer regarding aircraft operations.
• Recommend and assist in developing policies and guidelines in all phases of flight operations for State-owned and contracted aircraft.
• Assist in the development, implementation and oversight of flight standard and training programs.
• Ensure that all pilots who fly department aircraft comply with minimum training and proficiency requirements.
• Provide technical assistance to aircraft accident investigation teams and may recommend policy changes as a result.
• Assist in the acquisition of aircraft.
• Monitor, evaluate and make recommendations for improving aircraft equipment, safety equipment and the air program relative to flight operations.
• As needed, act as relief and primary pilot of State-owned and contracted aircraft in the performance of all FSG aviation missions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  

• Experience with civilian aviation programs; or military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components)
• Experience with piloting and pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA)
• Proven ability to train and instruct others in the piloting of a main-frame aircraft (crewed and uncrewed)
• Experience with mission tasking, intelligence reporting, and applying weather information.
• Experience with supervising and/or filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
• Experience with aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
• Experience with operating aircraft controls and equipment.
• Experience with performing or supervising the work procedures involved in navigation, “hot” and cold refueling, search and rescue operations, or surveillance and reconnaissance.
• Ability to conduct or supervise the training of crew members in simple to complex mission-specific tasks. Experience with developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Experience with flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
• Proven ability to instruct others to pilot aircraft on a regular and recurring basis.
• Experience with aviation quality control management programs; plus, skilled in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Federal, state, and local guidelines.
• Experience with following directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to help determine unit safety program requirements.
• Experience with coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs.
• Experience with one or more missions such as air-to-ground; surveillance; reconnaissance; MEDEVAC; target tracking; or laser targeting.
• Experience with manned or unmanned aircraft.
• Experience with onboard aircraft instrumentation and aircraft-mounted video cameras. Experience with visual flight-rule type flying and aircraft instrument flying.
• Experience with planning, scheduling, and conducting flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace (NAS).
• Experience with applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions
• Experience with working independently to plan and perform work assignments.
• Experience with completing safe and efficient missions using Operational Risk Management.
• Experience with canceling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, and/or directing emergency actions involving unit support agencies.
• Experience with using applicable FAA regulations, policies, requirements, standards, skills, and practices and applying instructional techniques to the training of other pilots.
• Experience with conducting surveillance tactics, missions, or specific main-frame aircraft, flying in various types of terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluation, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations and instruction.
• Experience with overseeing standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements.
• Experience with reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency, and knowledge of special mission equipment and tactics.
• Experience with maintaining detailed Emergency and non-emergency plans and supplements for unit mobility, deployment, field operations/employment, and redeployment.
