Location: Houston, TX

Compensation: $60K – $65K / year

Cash Applications Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Cash Applications Specialist to join our fast-paced accounting team. This role is responsible for accurately applying customer payments, reconciling accounts, and supporting the accounts receivable process to ensure timely and accurate posting of cash receipts.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and a solid understanding of cash application, payment reconciliation, and AR accounting processes in a non-medical business environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately post and apply customer payments (ACH, wire, check, credit card, and lockbox) to accounts
  • Research and resolve unidentified or misapplied payments promptly.
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts and ensure all transactions are properly recorded.
  • Collaborate with the AR and billing teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure account accuracy.
  • Monitor customer accounts for short payments, overpayments, and unapplied cash.
  • Assist with customer account reconciliations and support month-end close activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of all cash applications and adjustments.
  • Provide support for audits and internal reporting as required.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in cash applications, accounts receivable, or general accounting (non-medical industry).
  • Strong understanding of AR processes, payment reconciliation, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software required
  • Intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, filters, etc.).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive mindset.
