Summary

This role is ideal for a designer or technologist who blends architectural knowledge with scripting, automation, and AI-driven workflows. You'll support project teams during design and production phases, build computational tools, and help integrate emerging technologies like generative AI and performance modeling into everyday practice.

This position is based out of our Los Angeles, California office. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement custom computational workflows to support project design and delivery.
  • Collaborate with BIM Management and project teams to address modeling challenges with tailored scripting and automation.
  • Maintain and expand HMC’s Computational Script Library with clear documentation.
  • Teach and support adoption of computational methods, including AI-assisted tools, through internal learning platforms.
  • Leverage tools such as Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python, and C# to build intelligent models and integrations.
  • Apply AI models and generative design tools to drive rapid prototyping, sustainability analysis, and performance optimization.
  • Participate in R+D efforts exploring architectural applications of generative AI and automation.
  • Respond to Digital Practice Help Desk tickets for Tier 1 and Tier 2 support related to design technology.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in leveraging AI and computational design for real-world applications.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to cross-functional team initiatives.
  • Enthusiastic about teaching others and scaling technical solutions firmwide.
  • Adaptable, open to change, and driven to push design technology forward.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in architecture or A/E/C-related design technology roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit + Dynamo and Rhino + Grasshopper.
  • Working knowledge of performance and analysis tools (e.g., Autodesk Forma, Climate Studio).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Excel, PowerBI).
  • Programming experience in Python and/or C#; familiarity with AI/ML workflows is a plus.
  • Understanding of AI integration for design automation, generative design, and tool development

The salary range for this position is $58,208 to $81,887

The actual offered salary for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
