Job Description
We are a growing law firm seeking an Entry Level Bilingual (EN/SP) Estate Planning Paralegal who will take ownership and pride in contributing to our evolution and expansion. We provide sophisticated and comprehensive estate and asset protection planning services that make significant differences in the lives of the people we represent.
Paralegals are at the very heart of our expert legal teams, and they are vital to maintaining our standards of excellence. They have a direct impact on our day-to-day operations by providing attorney support, outstanding client services, timely and accurate document preparation, and detailed database maintenance. Your work will affect the lives and the legacies of other people.
Culturally, we are committed to the application of "Great Practice, Great Life!" for all our team members.
"Great Practice" means we have created a workplace where professional stress is minimized, internal systems produce predictable workflow, the caseload is reasonable, colleagues (both attorneys and paralegals) have true respect for what everyone contributes to the team, and we genuinely "have each other's backs." Our entire practice is focused on estate planning, asset protection, and uncontested probate (we do NO litigation).
"Great Life" means we have created a culture unlike that of most law firms, where home life is honored. We are with our families for dinner every evening. We don't work weekends. Each team member must have the vacation time necessary to recharge their bodies, minds, and souls.
In short, our "Great Practice" enables each of us to have a "Great Life."
Compensation: Starting at $40,000. Estate Planning is an area of the law in which most paralegals have no experience. Typically, there is significant training on the job, and we are paying someone to learn for approximately one year before they can work independently. Salaries in our firm increase with experience and value added to each position.
If you're looking to be a key part of an expanding business with opportunities to advance within our firm, please get in touch with us.
Responsibilities:
• Proactively seek, recommend, and engage in strategies to improve professional proficiency and task performance as well as the quality and productivity of the firm’s output, processes, and systems.
• Create Last Wills and Testaments, Revocable Living Trusts, Irrevocable Trusts, General Durable Powers of Attorney, Medical Powers of Attorney, Directives to Physicians, and Declarations of Guardian under the guidance of a lawyer.
• Categorize clients’ assets, organize the transfer of real estate and non-qualified accounts into legal entities, and assist with revising specified beneficiaries for qualified accounts, life insurance, and annuities.
• Engage in conversations with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to give updates, get information, and furnish the feedback essential to finishing allotted cases and jobs according to appointed deadlines.
• Schedule signings and hearings, and communicate with lawyers and clients concerning the development of their estate planning and court cases.
• Maintain client files to ensure they are correctly arranged and up to date, and control client documents.
• Write and file papers related to uncontested probate and uncontested guardianship matters (we do no litigation), under the supervision of an attorney, and submit them.
Qualifications:
• Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Complete screening tags are included in the job description.
• Complete DISC assessment as part of the hiring process.
• Willingness to commute to our office in McKinney, Texas, and work there full-time.
• Self-motivated and able to autonomously manage, prioritize, and complete tasks.
• Looking for a professional environment that encourages career growth.
• Ideally, has completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program, such as an associate degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies.
• Preferably 1-2 years of experience as a paralegal in a law firm dealing with estate planning, probate, and guardianship issues.
• Having excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding, empathetic, and able to relate to others.
• Capable of thriving in a fast-paced, team-oriented workplace.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
