Responsibilities to Anticipate for this Role The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the design, development and implementation of activities for manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new and existing products to meet production safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives. Ensures the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing quality products at minimum costs. Manages manufacturing operations to include plant layout, sequence of operations, fabrication procedures and adapting machinery in response facility conditions. Participates with technical staff and management across departments to develop and implement current, annual, and long- term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the manufacturing operations.
- Recruit and empower a high-performing team of engineers to develop harnesses within a 3D NX CAD environment, from initial requirements to vehicle installation.
- Implement and verify that the team follows the standards, processes, and tools for the harnessing discipline. Document and communicate design, analysis and testing results thoroughly and clearly via design reviews.
- Review and approve harness designs, drawings, and documentation in accordance with program requirements and applicable standards.
- Champion the cross functional partnership with all harness stakeholders across all engineering teams, materials and processes, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain tooling, equipment, and calibration to ensure consistent product quality.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, travelers, and inspection checklists per AS9100 and ISO9001 requirements.
- Capture requirements from technical system owners and translate them into design requirements for your team to implement and verify.
- Manage technical trade studies to meet stakeholder objectives as well as adhere to internal design standards and requirements.
- Identify and manage project level development milestones in the form of analyses, demonstrations, and tests to ensure program success.
- Interface with production and integration teams to ensure final designs can be released, produced, and installed on schedule in accordance with overall project goals.
- Perform investigations and trade studies to push wire harness design to new boundaries in terms of mass and cost savings.
Required Skills & Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field.
- 5+ years experience in wire harness design, robotics and at least 2-3 years proven experience in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of military electrical standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620, MIL-W5088, AS50881, etc).
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and configuration management tools.
- Hand on experience with CAD software for design (e.g., SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD, or Zuken).
- Hands on background in electrical harness assembly and testing.
- Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment and able to work extended hours as required.
