Staff Accountant Job Summary As a Staff Accountant, you will be a vital contributor to the company’s financial integrity and success. You’ll manage key accounting functions, such as preparing reconciliations, overseeing balance sheets, and leading month-end closing activities. Beyond ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to create efficiencies, challenge processes, and promote financial excellence. This is a dynamic role with opportunities for collaboration, growth, and innovation in a mission-driven environment.
What you’ll do as the Staff Accountant: - Prepare and post monthly general ledger entries, reconciliations, and adjustments
- Lead month-end close processes and compiling financial reports
- Manage daily cash activities and accounts receivable for efficient cash flow planning
- Act as a key resource for credit card expense coding and reconciliation
- Support program teams with financial needs and resolving account discrepancies
- Assist with audits, accounts payable reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Promote commitment to equity, undoing racism, and reducing disparities
What you’ll bring to the Staff Accountant role: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Management (or an associate degree with 2+ years of experience)
- 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, and accounts receivable/payable
- Proficiency in GAAP, month-end close processes, and advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPS)
- Solution-oriented mindset with critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with diverse teams and program participants
