Job Description: Physical Education Teacher 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Instructional

Reports to: Head of Middle School

Position Commences: August 2025

Summary Description

The Pine School is seeking an energetic, passionate Physical Education teacher to instruct middle school students in sports, fitness, and health education. In this role, the teacher will develop an engaging, vertically-aligned curriculum that builds fundamental movement skills, promotes teamwork, and fosters appreciation for overall wellness while ensuring student safety. The teacher must be committed to creating an inclusive learning environment. Beyond classroom instruction, the ideal candidate is prepared to accept opportunities to coach varsity sports teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing appropriate curriculum designated by The Pine School.
• Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers and the AD in planning and implementing a balanced physical and health education program. 
• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. 
• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course and the next generation Sunshine States standards for Physical Education; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. 
• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students. 
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares narratives, updates weekly newsletter, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. 
• Maintains control of storage and use of school property. 
• Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports. 
• Communicates with parents, AAD and AD on student progress. 
• Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day. 
• Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
• Serve as advisors to 10 - 12 students and take on other supervisory assignments as needed.

Qualification Requirements

• An undergraduate degree in Physical Education or a related field is required. 
• Strong candidates will have five or more years of experience teaching PE and health, and also come with a keen interest to help create an even more cohesive PE program for our students.
• Candidates must have coaching experience and be willing to coach multiple interscholastic sports (for additional compensation).
• Must be eager and passionate about physical education and sees athletics and physical fitness as key components to an exceptional education.
• Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere with both adults and children.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods standing/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
