Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Production Technician is responsible for safely achieving production demands and quality requirements within a defined timeframe, from preparation to filling, while remaining compliant with hygiene, HACCP and work safety guideline. The Production Technician is also responsible for maintaining equipment reliability by performing basic maintenance tasks as needed.

Essential Functions

  1. Operates production machines by means of automatic/manual controls and adjusts production equipment to product-specific parameters according to the daily production plan and the observance of time parameters.
  2. Processes raw and semi-finished products according to the recipe, manufacturing, and operating instructions for all departments.
  3. Takes samples and conducts quality controls, forwarding the results to Quality as needed.
  4. Fills finished products into appropriate packaging.
  5. Initiates and controls repairs, maintenance, and modifications of machines in close coordination with the supervisor and maintenance department.
  6. Performs PMs on all assigned equipment.
  7. Records all data as required (i.e., charts, necessary process adjustments based on data findings, etc.).
  8. Performs CIP/COP and general sanitation as needed.
  9. Implements the internal and legal specifications and guidelines concerning hygiene, HACCP, food and work safety and environmental protection.
  10. Informs Supervisor and Manager on issues or immediate needs that may impact the department.
  11. Adheres to GMPs within appropriate zones.
  12. Interacts with and inputs data into SAP.
  13. Performs general sanitation duties.
  14. Assists in other areas of production as needed.
  15. Performs LOTO procedures when needed.
  16. Interacts with and follows instructions provided on PI sheet.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is occasionally exposed to wet, warm, humid, and cold temperatures.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The employee is frequently required to stand; occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, with regular office hours Monday through Friday from 6:00am-2:30 pm. Hours and days can vary depending on production schedule.

Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma
  2. 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing / production environment
  3. Must be proficient in the use of equipment such as flow meters, scales, steam lines, chart recorders, agitators, pumps, valves, and batch tanks
  4. Must be able to read and understand PI sheets
  5. Must be able to read and follow a production schedule
  6. Must have either mechanical experience or an aptitude for mechanics

Preferred Qualifications

1. SAP experience

2. Working knowledge of food & beverage production or related processes

3. Ability to read and understand PI sheets (inspection sheets)

4. Experience with dairy processing, bottling, and package equipment
