Position Summary:
MedStar Health Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Remote Payroll Specialist to process multi-state payrolls for a large, complex healthcare system. The ideal candidate will ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies. This is a fully remote position that requires excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Process bi-weekly payroll for a high-volume, multi-entity healthcare system using enterprise payroll software (e.g., Workday, ADP, or Kronos).
Verify timesheets, manage payroll deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data, including onboarding, terminations, and pay changes.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, ensuring excellent customer service.
Audit and reconcile payroll reports to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to support reporting, budgeting, and auditing needs.
Support year-end processes including W-2 preparation, audits, and tax filings.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
3+ years of payroll processing experience in a large or multi-state organization
Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations (FLSA, IRS, DOL)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems (Workday, ADP, or similar)
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently in a remote setting
