Job Title: COBOL Programmer (Remote)

Overview:
We are looking for a skilled COBOL Programmer to join our team in a remote capacity. The ideal candidate will have expertise in COBOL programming and a strong background in maintaining and enhancing legacy systems for our client. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can collaborate with team members virtually while supporting critical systems that have a direct impact on business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write, test, and maintain COBOL code for legacy systems.
• Collaborate with business analysts and other IT professionals to gather requirements and develop system enhancements.
• Ensure that COBOL applications are performing efficiently and troubleshoot any issues as they arise.
• Perform system migrations, upgrades, and conversions to ensure compatibility with modern technologies.
• Provide ongoing support and maintenance for existing applications, including resolving bugs and optimizing code.
• Document COBOL programs, processes, and procedures to ensure clear understanding and compliance.
• Work closely with database administrators, system architects, and technical teams to integrate COBOL systems with other technologies.
• Participate in the planning and execution of system enhancements, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
• Adhere to coding standards, security protocols, and best practices.

Qualifications :

• Proven experience as a COBOL Programmer, with experience working on mainframe applications.
• Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and other mainframe technologies.
• Familiarity with modern mainframe tools and techniques (e.g., batch processing, integration with APIs, or cloud-based systems).
• Ability to write and maintain well-documented, clean, and efficient code.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and debug legacy systems.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining clear communication with a distributed team.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of business processes and the ability to work with end-users to meet business needs.
• Previous experience in the financial, healthcare, or government sectors is a plus.
