Wärtsilä Energy Storage & Optimization, a leading battery energy storage integrator, is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Embedded Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team with a minimum 5 years of experience in embedded systems QA execution and methods as well as experience testing battery management systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our embedded software products through rigorous testing and validation processes. This exciting opportunity will allow you to contribute with your knowledge and passion in the development of cutting-edge technologies to aid on the Wärtsilä’s vision towards a 100% renewable energy future. The location for this position is Herndon, VA.

Educational Background/Requirement

• Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field

Main responsibilities

• Develop and execute detailed test plans for embedded software systems applied to battery management systems and energy management systems for stationary battery applciations.
• Perform manual and automated testing to identify system vulnerabilities and quality problems.
• Collaborate with the development team to diagnose and resolve software defects.
• Analyze test results and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Lead the creation and maintenance of test documentation.
• Implement best practices in test automation and continuous integration processes.
• Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system testing, system reliability and product certification.

Desired Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Java.
• Battery Management Systems and Energy Storage Systems experience
• Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller architectures.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and QA methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools
• Experience with Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) automated testing for embedded systems
• Knowledge of industry standards for functional safety and software quality
• Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
• Experience with Matlab/Simulink
• Software Tools: Practical usage of software management tools like Git, Bitbucket, and Jira.
• Working knowledge of safety and reliability standards like IEC 61508, ISO26262 and reliability methodologies such as Fault Trees, RBD, STPA, and FMEA.
• Familiarity with Communication Protocols: such as RS485, CAN, MODBUS TCP, OPC UA, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, and is preferred.
• Documentation: Experience generating technical documentation and potentially authoring internal or external publications.
