Senior Mortgage Loan Officer Location San Jose, CA : SUMMARY The Senior Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for providing exceptional service to our members through accurate financial counseling and professional interviewing skills while producing high quality loans that meet the credit union guidelines. This role effectively responds to a member's unique lending situations, applying independent thinking to optimize the best loan solution to meet the member's financial needs.   • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma and 3 to 5 years of first mortgage loan origination (sales) experience. Knowledge and understanding of Fannie Mae guidelines.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Loan Origination & Sales Responsibilities:
  • Manage inbound and outbound member calls and incoming emails to effectively sell mortgage loans (first and second mortgage offerings).
  • Meet directly with members to collect and evaluate financial and personal data to pre-qualify, counsel, and recommend appropriate residential lending products to applicants.
  • Educate members about the loan process and available loan products, rates, and credit union guidelines that apply to loan requests.
  • Obtain residential mortgage loan application requests via face-to-face, mail, fax, telephone, and Internet. The MLO ensures exceptional member service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics, complying with all Credit Union, Federal and State compliance policies and adhering to HMDA requirements.
  • Offer or negotiate terms of residential mortgage loans after review from the real estate underwriter.
  • Analyze credit report, application, and other supporting documents to identify financial needs, cross-sell Credit Union products and services.
  • Proactively make follow-up calls for Member inquiries and incomplete applications received.
  • Work closely with the underwriter and processors to ensure loans are efficiently processed, collecting supporting documents to move loans forward into a complete application.
  • Utilize the tools and resources available to make outbound calls to members to generate new real estate business.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Branch and department team members to develop new business opportunities and increase loan growth.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Update and manage pipeline (reports) to achieve individual and department mortgage production goals as outlined by the Credit Union.
  • Provide leadership and support to MLOs and mortgage lending team.
  • Assist Management by training, mentoring and motivating branches and departments in generating leads to increase loan growth.
  • Actively participate in mortgage related campaigns and promotions, business development events and real estate seminars as needed to attract new business opportunities. Provide ideas and solutions that can help improve process efficiencies, working directly with management on testing to successfully implement and improve workflows and member experiences.
  • Work directly with management to assist with the coordination of mortgage-related sales campaigns and promotions, including but not limited to attending real estate seminars as needed.
  • Stay informed of trends and developments in the local real estate market and the needs of our members as well as changing rules and regulations pertaining to real estate loans. Provide recommendations to management on product and program improvements.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable credit union policies and procedures as well as governing laws and regulations and FNMA guidelines.
  • Respond promptly to requests and questions from internal staff and members.
  • Achieve production goals as established by the Credit Union.
  • Compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC and USA PATRIOT Act, including but not limited to completing Member Identification Program requirements, customer due diligence, identifying high risk accounts and reporting suspicious activities to supervisor and BSA Officer.
