Job Summary:
Owl is hiring for a Systems Engineer. We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join our team to advance the state of the art for cybersecurity appliances (Cross Domain Solutions) used by government agencies to ensure secure and trusted voice, video, and data-driven collaboration. The products are comprised of Java/C++/Rust software that we develop on RHEL that we harden and deliver in several COTS hardware configurations as complete solutions. This role is essential for engaging with stakeholders, defining product requirements, and ensuring thorough verification and validation through rigorous testing processes.

This position can support remote employees in Eastern or Central time zones. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Requirements:
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to elicit, analyze, understand, and document program objectives, system concept of operations, hardware capabilities, interfaces, and allocated operations.
  • Analyze, allocate, decompose, trace, and prioritize requirements to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Regularly review and update requirements to reflect changes in project scope, stakeholder feedback, or evolving business needs.
  • Evaluate overall project risks and facilitate risk management and mitigation.
Documentation:
  • Create and maintain comprehensive requirement documentation, including requirement specifications and traceability matrices.
  • Review and update design documentation in alignment with requirements and verification activities.
  • Ensure all requirements are clear, concise, and testable.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with customers, software developers, testers, product and project managers to ensure requirements are understood, implemented, and tested correctly.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Validation and Verification:
  • Participate in the validation and verification of requirements through testing and review processes.
  • Ensure that the final product meets the defined requirements and quality standards.
Requirements/Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in systems engineering or software requirements analysis.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.).
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, DOORS, JAMA).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-driven and proactive.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance.
