Lead News Reporter at The Norman Transcript/Chickasha Express-Star

The Norman Transcript & Chickasha Express-Star , award-winning news organizations serving Cleveland and Grady Counties, are seeking a full-time Lead News Reporter. We are looking for a skilled journalist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering impactful local news across our print and digital platforms. What You'll Do

• Investigate and report: Research, investigate, and break compelling news stories that matter to the Norman and Chickasha communities.
• Serve as a multimedia storyteller: Produce high-quality content for print, our website, and social media, ensuring frequent and timely updates.
• Cultivate sources: Be eager to get into the community, build and maintain a network of sources, and give a platform to new voices.
• Write with speed and accuracy: Craft everything from quick-turn briefs to in-depth, next-day stories under tight deadlines.
• Edit for clarity: Edit copy for accuracy, grammar, AP style, and readability.
• Collaborate across the newsroom: Work effectively with editors and other staff.
• Design for print and digital: Work with design staff to lay out pages and design creative visual elements.
• Lead stories and follow-ups: Drive meaningful follow-ups to previous articles, providing new information, developments, reactions, or angles.
  
  

Who We're Looking For

• A proven journalist with a minimum of three years of professional reporting experience, preferably in a newsroom setting.
• A strong, versatile writer with excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Experience with content management systems.
• A self-starter who excels at working under pressure and meeting multiple deadlines.
• A solid grasp of journalism ethics, libel, and public record laws.
• An awareness of topics and issues impacting the Norman and Chickasha areas.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as news dictates.
• A bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent professional experience is required.
